Cabin Crew: New Careers is Healthcare, Case Study from Jose

Meet Jose, from working at an airport to becoming a Carer and making a difference!

“Faced with challenges due to COVID-19 I had to leave the aviation industry which has always been my passion. When it came to looking for something new, my brothers and I were already caring for my mother so I decided that working in the care sector might help me understand what she was going through.

After reading an advert that Francis Court care home were looking for team members, regardless of experience, I researched Care UK and found that it was a well-established organisation with a large portfolio of homes delivering really high-quality care. To me, they seemed like a company that carefully selects and invests in their people, and it was something I wanted to be part of.

Whilst I already knew some of the basics of working as a carer, such as personal care, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first started. But I was willing to learn and I was particularly interested in learning how to support people living with dementia.

What I love about my role now is that no day is the same. Working in an airport, where I developed my customer service skills, has really helped a lot. It takes patience, teamwork and a desire to provide the very best care to every person.

I love interacting with and caring for residents, just like I would with my own family. The smile, the hug, the thank you and the love you get from the person who you help – that’s what gives me great satisfaction and drives me to become a great carer.

Care UK has been really supportive with its training programme, with a combination of online learning and on-the-job experience. As well as playing my part in a big picture, I feel valued as an individual and as an important member of our home team. With development and growth at its centre and values that motivate colleagues to establish long careers here. I feel like the world is my oyster and Care UK will support me through my career progression.

I would recommend anyone looking for a new career to consider giving care a go, and Care UK is the company to be with.”
